Web TV catch-up in advance
28 May, 2008
So video on the Web is already important enough to broadcasters that ITV.com is playing host, on demand naturally, to a big high profile US import. The kind of thing that C4 TV would do up until not too long ago.
Episode two of ‘Pushing Daisies’, which was purchased but not broadcast by ITV, because of a lack of saturday nights before the football began, will be available on-line as a UK exclusive, for seven days following the final episode’s Tx.
So video on the web really is important enough to warrant it’s own big US import… That’s quick! But hang on a moment, earlier this month didn’t Five & Bebo’s web exclusive series migrate onto the Fiver channel…? That’s quick to move too! And C4 plan to move their education commissions online too in the rather near future. People – make your minds up!!
Have you heard the one about UK commercial TV audiences up 10% last month? Highest seasonal start for 15 years! Can’t quite belive it myself. If true then fantastic work, Michael! Somehow though I find myself suspicious and urging on the side of caution before the champaign corks fly. Lets see what the agencies do.
Sitting on the train, trundelling along at speed(!) through the kentish countryside, I find myslf strangely missing my evening TV experience. Yesterday I was sure that I wouldn’t. But it is not BGT for which I pine. Rather, annoyingly flicking through Sky’s EPG; gleaning the occasion usless fact from Challenge quizshow repeats; topping up my sci-fi fix by cramming up on SG-1, Atlantis or Battlestar on Sky 2 during the breaks; and getting a hit of the various rolling news’ at the top of the hour. I’m a news junkie. I’m also an outed telly addict (Noel Edmunds not inolved).
There’s always tomorrow.
